Fifth Avenue, New York 2012 Summer

2012 summer, the most exciting thing about fashion and art is that Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama injects colors and polka dot patterns infinitely into Mark Jacob's feminine silhouettes.
On Fifth Avenue, the windows of Louis Vuitton flagship store is like a small Kusama exhibition.

(Princess of Polka Dots)

"My wish was to be a painter one day, so I started painting a lot of pictures from the age of 10. My mom said that I was not allowed to paint…that one day I would have to marry some one from a rich family and become a housewife. When I was a girl, she took away all of my inks and canvases.

When I first arrived in New York, I went to the top of the Empire State Building. Seeing this big city, I promised myself that one day I would conquer New York and make my name in the world with my passion for the arts and mountains of creative energy stored inside myself..."

-excerpts from Kusama: Princess of Polka Dots directed by Heather Lenz, artist Yayoi Kusama-

Compare to the mannequin, this window are filled with many tiny Kusama figures, which are floating in the air with her polka dots.
Kusama’s magical dots have spread in New York.

On the other side, there are charming flowers with eyes.

You can see another small Kusama in the window as well before you enter the store. The red high-hilled shoes with white spots catch girls’ attention.(But be honest, they also make me think of Minnie lol)

Check out the looks from the newest Louis Vuitton collaboration with artist Yayoi Kusama.

As the sponsor for Yayoi Kusama retrospective exhibition, Louis Vuitton had the chance to collaborate with Yayoi Kusama. The first stop is Tate Museum in London, and the second stop is at Whitney Museum of American Art in New York.

From the outside of museum, you can see several gigantic white-dot red balls hanging on the cylinder.

Overall, the exhibition is beyond I expected. It completely includes Kusama’s early paintings, early works on paper, the New York period: Infinity Net Paintings, Accumulation Sculptures, Aggregation, 1960s Collage, documentation (letters, photos, flyers…), Walking Piece, Self-Obliteration, work after returning to Japan: Collage, works from 1980s-1990s, Recent Paintings.

On the first floor lobby, there is another special exhibition. Remember to make a reservation while you are purchasing tickets. Because there were many people, I could only book 2pm reservation at 12pm.
Each person is allowed enter the space one by one per minute per person. It’s like an illusion space, where our minds may get lost.

In the end, I would like to share a fantastic book-
Alice in Wonderland: with Artwork by Yayoi Kusama- Penguin Classics
Hope you enjoy my sharing :D
